2017/2018 English Premier League Match Day One Review

This is a Guest Post Written by Kingsman Typee Ugochukwu. Mr Kingsman Will Focus on Sports Review and today we are starting with the 2017/2018 English Premier League  Match Day One Review.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The English premier league is back!!!!!. 2017/2018 season kicked off last weekend. There were plenty of drama and goals to discuss and analyse. Lots of talking points. A total of 10 matches was played and the 25th English premier league kicked off with a Friday night game at the Emirates, Arsenal hosting Leicester city. Everyone loves a 7-goal thriller and football fans did not have to wait for long for their first of the league.

Arsenal new boy Alexandre lacazette opened his campaign, scoring in the 2 mins. The £52 million signing became the first Arsenal player to score on his premier league debut since Thomas vermaelen in 2009.(wait, is that dude still in Barcelona). The lead was short-lived as Leicester pulled even three minutes later, Marc albrighton's cross was acrobatically headed back by Harry Maquire and Shinji Okazaki rose highest to equalise. Leicester took the lead in the 29th minute, Jamie Vardy connecting with Albrighton cross to give Leicester the lead. The Gunners were still able to equalize in the final play of the first half, Mesut Oil played a pass into Lacazette, who's shot was deflected into the path of kolasinac, who unselfishly laid the ball for Danny Welbeck to score. In the second 45mins, Vardy again, was left unmarked as he rose high to connect Riyad Mahrez's header and directed it inside the back post to put Leicester ahead 3-2.

Arsene Wenger then made a double changes in the 67th minute bringing on Giroud and Ramsey for Elneny and Rob Holding. Both changes proved decisive as Ramsey equalized for Arsenal and Giroud sent a powerful header into the underside of the bar, winning the game for Arsenal. Could this be Arsenal's season? Can Arsenal squad hold up the challenge of playing many games in the Europa League and domestic league. Only time will tell?

Over to vicarage road, a six-goal thriller on matchday 1. Watford's Stefano Okaka opening the scoring. Sadio Mane's lovely finish made it 1-1. Abdoulay Doucoure restored the lead before Roberto Firmino equalized for the second time for the reds. Mohammed salah scored on his debut and looked to have won it but Watford was resilient and on stoppage time, Miguel Bristos scrambled home a controversial equaliser. Standing in his technical area Jurgen Klopp looked utterly crestfallen. The reds' defending was shambolic though and with the league still in its infancy, this is one area they need to improve. "We know we can do better. We have to do better, Klopp said".

Chelsea vs Burnley. 9-man Chelsea fought back but Burnley stood strong. Burnley left premier league champions, Chelsea humiliated on the first day of their title defense. Red cards for Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas helped Burnley on their way to victory. All three goals coming in the opening 45 minutes. Cahill's red card came just after 45mins with Sam Vokes opening the scoring afterwards. Stephen Ward and Vokes put the game beyond Chelsea. New boy Alvaro Morata and David Luiz scored in the second half but it was not enough to turn the game around. This would be Burnley league victory over blues since 23 April 1983. Amazing right?

Crystal palace vs Huddersfield Town. Another shocking result. New boys Huddersfield Town made an amazing start to life in the premier league, clipping the Eagles wings . Joel ward gave the Huddersfield the lead at Selhurst Park, with an own goal after 22 minutes before Stevie Mounie headed home later to double the lead. Mounie completed his brace in the second half to make it 3-0. Wilfred Zaha and co puffed and huffed but couldn't trouble Huddersfield defense.

The long wait for some competitive action has finally come to an end. With over 380 matches to be played, Which team will lift the illustrious trophy at the end of the marathon? This weekend has been massive, with a total of 31 goals scored, 3 red cards, 32 yellow cards. We the fans want more. We hope to more goals, more funfares and more red cards(Lol) come next weekend. Cheers.
