“Walk on Water” details the struggle Eminem endured during the latter half of his career. Since his comeback in 2009, his critics have showed disinterest in Eminem’s presence this time around.


The phrase “Walk[ing] on water” comes from Matthew 14:22-33, where Jesus walked across water to get to the boat, filled with all of his disciples. The song uses the metaphor of “walking on water” to Marshall’s career—he’s not Jesus, he can’t walk on water or do the impossible—come back to the same level he was at in his peak.
